So it has been one year since my little accident. For those of you who dont know the story it goes like this. We were having a tourney here in evanston and I was supposed to be working but one of the local teams didn't have enough girls so they asked me to play. I really didn't want to but they kept begging me and the ladies I work with insisted that I did too. So I decided I would be nice and go play. It was about the second inning I think and I was on 2nd base. The pitcher pitched it and the GUY batter hit it. It was coming right at me so I thought I was going to make an easy play. Then the next thing I know is it hit me in the face and I fell to the ground in pain. Everyone ran over and surrounded me. Then two of the ladies I was working with came out to the rescue. They grabbed my hands and insisted that I was going to be ok even though my eye was swollen shut and I couldn't see out of it and the blood from my nose was chocking me. Some guy came out the said he was a nurse was like" You'll only need a few stitches and you'll be just fine." Mean while back at the ranch, my dad heard on the scanner that some 18 year old girl had just got hit in the face by a softball and they were calling an ambulance, and what was his reaction... Some dumb girl can't catch the ball. Then dispatch called him and said uh David we think that was your daughter that got hit, and his reaction... Some dumb girl can't catch the ball. So anyways the ambulance comes and put that dang neck brace on and loaded me up to take me to the hospital. And as I am there the whole town of evanston comes to see me. No I am thankful to those of you that came except that they kept making me laugh and my head was
pounding, and they all got their phones out to take pictures. Anyways they had to dig the contact out of my eye to check it. They were talking about life flighting me out to Utah because they were worried about the pressure and bleeding inside of my eye, but they ended up just transporting me by ground. Kent Williams was on call that day and he helped my dad give me a blessing before we left. They trip down to Utah was the most horrible trip ever. I was so tired because they gave me morphine for the pain...which made me sick and tired... so then they gave me phenegran to help with the nausea and it also made me tired. So I was so incredibly tired but everytime I would go to sleep I was afraid I was going to quit breathing because the neck brace made it hard to breathe. But as soon as they took the brace off when we got to the U of U, I was able to sleep... kind of. The docs kept coming in and waking me up to do test or whatever and my dad's phone was ringing off the hook, but it wasn't a ring it was an elk call. It was so annoying and made me so grumpy everytime it went off. but the funny story was one doc came in and handed me a paper and asked if I could read it. I held it and looked at it and said ya i can... and he was all can you read it out loud to me! Haha it was funny but i as on drugs. and when they went to stitch me up I touched the sterile sheet that was on my face and I got in trouble for that too! But I was so glad to be able to come home. We went to the eye doctor the next day and we found out the my eye was bleeding inside and the pressure was really high, so I was supposed to stay in bed, or a dark room and not use my eyes because they were afraid my eye would permanently loose the eye sight. So that only lasted a few days because I was so bored of it. Anyways I also broke my nose and the bones around my eye but they weren't misplaced so i didn't have to get surgery.

The hospital shorty after the hit

The hospital shorty after the hit
You can tell me nose is broken and can see the bruising already showing and the swelling

This was day one after we got home that night

Day 2 when we went to see my grandparents
Day 3- the Color has spread to the other side of my face and my noce is distorted
Day 4- alot of bruising and discolor on both sides of my face. The swelling on my eye, nose, between my eyes and forehead, nad can see the stitches pretty good...
but I am so blessed for the outcome that I had. If the ball would've hit anywhere else I could've been killed or had worse injuries. I was only dizzy for about a month or two when I would turn my head a certain way, my whole face was bruised and swollen and it took about a month for all the color to go away but it finally did, I lost alot of my sense of smell and taste but alot of it has came back and is still slowly returning, the nerves in my forehead are kinda screwed up cuz I tough above my eyebrow and fill it half way up my head, my eyebrow area is still a little swollen but its not too noticable, and my memory isn't as good as it used to be and some people sasy that I have tramatic brain injury and I think sometimes i do too... just kidding but its a good excuse haha. I also swore I would never play aoftball again but I did get me a helmet and I palyed in the relay for life tourney and I also played one other night without my helmet!! So I am slowly healing all the little things but all the big things are healed and my eye sight was just as bad as it was before the injury. I think I am doing good for it only being a year ago, and my eye isn't peranently damaged!

So thats what happened to your face! Just kidding. I'm glad you have recovered. I forgot how nasty that injury was.
I'm glad you recovered from that. I can't believe it's been a year.
Tiff that is so scary...I can't even imagine getting hurt like that. Way to handle it like a champion.
